Attachment Narrative Family Therapy (ANT) Level 1

To be confirmed

Course Overview

Focused on Child and adolescent Depression

Attachment narrative Family Therapy (ANFT) is an empirically informed family therapy model specifically designed to target family and individual processes associated with child and adolescent depression and adapted for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS).

ANT is not prescriptive, instead it offers a framework to guide therapists on How-To organise and sequence session, identify narrative markers and craft and support change processes. The ANT framework also offers suggestions on How-To adapt it to different families and contexts.

ANT draws on attachment research, narrative and systemic core practices, research, and theory.

Many families presenting for therapy with children or adolescents with both externalising and internalising symptoms, have a history of transgenerational trauma and have not experienced a Secure-enough-base. Consequently, the quality of relational engagement and mentalisation in these families’ precipitates or exacerbates the symptoms presenting in child or adolescent depression and behavioural disorders.

ANT is crafted combination of systemic, narrative and attachment-based models and aims to repair interpersonal ruptures and rebuild an emotionally protective, secure-enough parent-child relationship.

This course provides the core concepts of the framework and includes training exercises and notes.

Family Attachment Genogram, Narratives and Discourse markers, Family Interactions, structure, and preferred self-protective strategies.  Transgenerational Meaning of the Child in the Family.
